GENERAL INFORMATION:

If you wish to participate in this call, you must first read the Terms and Conditions of the www.festiver.org website and the Conditions of Participation according to the chosen section and follow the instructions provided. Please be aware that, by registering and sending your work, you accept the conditions of participation.

  • How do I know if my movie is “green”?
    The Barichara Green Film Festival is an event created for the promotion, dissemination and support of cinematographic work focused on the environment, which is defined as a group of physical, chemical, biological, social, economic and cultural components that directly or indirectly affect human life and living beings in general. Therefore, an audiovisual project is considered to be “green” when it discusses the natural, social and cultural values of a place that affect human lives or any other life form.
  • When and where does the Green Film Festival take place?
    The Barichara Green Film Festival will take place from September 21st to September 25th (2016) in Barichara, Santander (Colombia).
  • Who can participate in the festival?
    Any Colombian or foreign individuals of legal age or corporations whose projects fit in any of the categories listed.

    Note: The following persons must not participate in the festival: i) Colombian or foreign individuals or corporations whose rightness of resources, representatives, managers, directors and/or shareholders is being questioned in a legal process; ii) Projects in which a member of FESTIVER or the Evaluation Committee has financial, artistic, authorial or technical participation. Also, projects with the involvement of any person who is related to the festival, such as: spouse or permanent partner, relatives within the second degree of consanguinity and affinity and first degree of relationship by adoption; iii) FESTIVER members; iv) Members of the Evaluation Committee; v) Spouses, permanent partners or relatives of the Evaluation Committee, within the second degree of consanguinity and affinity and first degree of relationship by adoption; vi) Persons or representatives, managers and shareholders of corporations which have been involved in the development of the terms and conditions of the festival, the selection of the Evaluation Committee members and organization of this event.

  • Can I participate with different works?
    One person or organization can submit up to 2 different audiovisual works. Each project must be registered in one category only.
  • When will you announce the projects selected for competition in the Festival?
    Selected works for competition will be published on the official website www.festiver.org and social media of Festiver Facebook: Festiver and Twitter: @FestiverCol, as well as other media on Monday, August 15th, 2016. All selected submissions may be promoted by Festiver at their own discretion.
  • How do I submit my work?
    The audiovisual works may only be submitted through the Festhome online platform to which you can register on the following link: www.festhome.com
  • Who pays for the submission fees?
    The online submission may only be completed through the Festhome platform. Participants must pay between $2.5 USD and $6.0 USD for the registration and submission of their work and all of the required documentation to participate in the call. The participants of Colombian nationality who register their work from Colombia may do so free of charge.

SECTIONS

I. OFFICIAL COMPETITION

This category is for films produced after 2014. The winner will receive the Festiver Petroglyph, a sculpture carved in stone by local Barichara artist Iván Darío Quintero. The festival will also provide incentives in cash, products or services, according to the sponsors’ capacity. These prizes will be given exclusively to the representative of the film. Selected films will be announced on Thursday, June 30th 2016 in the official website www.festiver.org and social media of Festiver. The selection committee reserves the right to invite any work to the competition, although the jury will have the final word in all competitions. Information with regards to the final selected films will be published in the 6th edition catalogue of Festiver.

CATEGORIES:
  • 1. Feature film or documentary:
    Any fictional or documentary audiovisual work with environmental content and Colombian or international production. Its content may be in Spanish or any other language, as long as it is dubbed or subtitled in Spanish. The running time of these submissions must be at least 70 minutes for feature films and 52 minutes for documentaries and production must have been completed after 2014.
  • 2. Short film or documentary:
    Any fictional or documentary audiovisual work with environmental content and Colombian or international production. This content may be in Spanish or any other language, as long as it is dubbed or subtitled in Spanish. These submissions must have a maximum running time of 24 minutes and must have been completed after 2014.
  • 3. Animation:
    Any 2D or 3D animation, stop motion and augmented reality projects with environmental content and Colombian or international production. The production of these submissions must have been completed after 2014 and their content may be in Spanish or any other language, as long as it is dubbed or subtitled in Spanish.
Other conditions of participation for feature films, short films and animated films:
Since the Barichara Green Film Festival aims to the protection of the environment through art, The Participant who submits their work freely and voluntarily expresses through this online registration that: i) Has read and understood the terms of the competition and declares that it accepts and complies with every stipulation thereof; ii) Authorizes FESTIVER to photograph, promote, record and playback in any way their appearances as a PARTICIPANT in The Festival, and in any sample of cultural and/or academic purposes in which Festiver has presence and on any platform developed and under development; iii) Any statement made in the framework of the participation in The Festival, will be true and will not violate or usurp the rights of third parties; iv) Acknowledges that the terms of this statement are valid obligations between the parties. Also by means of the submission of this form waives any provision contained in any other document which may impair or prevent the exercise of the obligation undertaken through the call and this document; v) Accepts and knows that The Barichara Green Film Festival, organized by Festiver, is an event with academic and cultural purposes, reason why, expressly renounces to demand, request, claim in any way directly or indirectly, any type of delivery, payment, compensation or remuneration for their participation in the Festival, other than which may arise as a result of the award that for such purposes is determined by Festiver, according to the conditions that optionally the organizers of the Festival establish for these purposes; vi) Accepts, knows and expresses that if you participate in the Barichara Green Film Festival, nor Festiver, nor its sponsors, will be required to undertake economic expenditures of any kind by the presentation of projects, by the disclosure that they have during the Festival or outside according to the aims of the Foundation; vii) The Festiver participant must have the quality of Director or Producer of the project that by means of this form submits and therefore manifests that is responsible for the content of each of the materials submitted to FESTIVER, so it exonerates the Barichara Green Film Festival from any responsibility regarding this matter; viii) By sending this registration form, the participant declares that has complied with the provisions of intellectual property that for this effect the law requires and determinates. Therefore,The Participant states that understands and acknowledges that the unauthorized use of works of third parties protected by copyright is illegal and forbidden by current regulations; ix) By sending the registration form, the participant states that has chosen to participate freely and voluntarily in the Barichara Green Film Festival organized by FESTIVER; x) Accepts that, at any time and without notice, Festiver modify the conditions listed herein, without place to carry out claims of any kind; xi) All received works on DVD or Blue-Ray will be part of the video library of Festiver available exclusively for academic and cultural purposes, and under no circumstances for commercial purposes, where Festiver has participation; xii) As it is a non-competitive and non-profit cultural event, exhibition rights will not be paid.

 

II. “COGOLLO VERDE”: SHORT FILM COMPETITION FOR NEW FILMMAKERS

Any fiction or documentary project with environmental content and Colombian production that was completed after 2014. Applicants to this category must be new filmmakers, film students or similar. These projects must be in Spanish or any other language as long as it is dubbed or subtitled in Spanish, and have a running time of 15 minutes or less.
The winner will receive the Festiver Petroglyph, a sculpture carved in stone by local Barichara artist Iván Darío Quintero. The festival will also provide incentives in cash, products or services according to the sponsors’ capacity. These prizes will be given exclusively to the representative of the film. Selected films will be announced on Monday, August 15th through the official website www.festiver.org and social media of Festiver. All information with regards to the final selected films will be published in 6th edition catalogue of Festiver.

Other conditions of participation for Cogollos Verdes:

III. “PHOTOSYNTHESIS”: POST-PRODUCTION SUPPORT

This category is for the first, second and third films in their first-cut stage, whose editing time ranges from 70 to 100 minutes and production is done in Colombia or Latin America. Selected feature films will be viewed exclusively by the members of the jury during the 6th edition of Festiver.

The winning feature film will receive the following post-production award:

  1. Up to 80 hours of color correction, courtesy of VFXGUYS in Mexico D.F., amounting to $30.000 USD. Apply conditions and restrictions.
  2. 10 business days of 5.1 sound final mixing in a Dolby certified and calibrated room, courtesy of CLAP STUDIOS, Medellin – Colombia, amounting to $8.000 USD. Apply conditions and restrictions.
  3. Post-production processes to obtain a DCI-standard DCP digital master, courtesy of IMAGINER FILMS in Medellín, Colombia, amounting to $5.000 USD. Apply conditions and restrictions.

Projects that apply to this competition must be able to afford all travel expenses in the cities where the sponsors are located. Festiver will choose 3 projects and cover accommodation in Barichara for one representative (Director or Producer) of each work during the 5 days of the festival. Festiver will not cover transportation or food expenses. The director or producer of each project must present the film to the members of the jury in Barichara. All information with regards to the final selected films in “Photosynthesis: Post-production support” will be published in the 6th edition catalogue of the Festival.

All 3 selected projects will be announced on Monday, August 15th 2016 through the official website www.festiver.org and social media of Festiver. The selection committee reserves the right to invite any work to the competition, although the jury will have the final word in all cases.

The winning project agrees to include all Barichara Green Festival Festiver, VFXGUYS, IMAGINER FILMS and CLAP STUDIOS logos in the final cut of the film and to finish its production within 12 months. Once completed, the film must be presented to Festiver for programming.

 

IV. “GREEN, I LOVE YOU GREEN”: INTERNATIONAL SCREENWRITING RESIDENCY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL FEATURE FILM
  1. The residency may be attended by anyone of legal age from Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
  2. Every applicant must demonstrate that they have already written at least one fiction feature film screenplay. The said work may have been previously awarded in another call, filmed, constituted the applicant’s final project in an undergraduate or graduate film or visual media program. In any case, this must be certified through: jury minutes, diploma, prize certifications, film posters or a link to a video with visible credits.
  3. If the previously written screenplay does not comply with the previously stated conditions, it will be accepted with a written endorsement letter from a renowned scriptwriter, producer or director vouching for the quality of the screenplay.
  4. The previously written screenplay, presented to establish previous knowledge, may not in any way constitute the project developed by the participant during the residency.
  5. In order to participate, the applicant must send a fiction feature film scriptwriting project with a clear environmental subject. The project must contain:
    • Argument (understood as an outline of the dramatic path) up to 5 pages long, 1.5 spacing in Courier New font, size 12.
    • A sequence of scenes, written in standard scriptwriting format, between 5 and 10 pages long.
    • A brief description of the project specifying the scriptwriter’s motivations to develop their writing, their initial approaches to the addressed subject, their previous investigations and sources, if any, and the considerations on the topics of storytelling, genre and narrative style they deem necessary to sustain their proposal, up to 5 pages long, 1.5 spacing in Courier New font, size 12.
  6. The previously described project must be submitted via email to info@festiver.org in a single PDF file. Additionally, the applicant must send separate PDF files containing:
    • Resume or Curriculum Vitae up to 3 pages.
    • Scriptwriting experience certification stated in point 2 of this section.
    • Copyright certificate.
  7. The project must be written in Spanish, as it is the official language of the residency. However, the documents mentioned in point 6 may be in the original language.
  8. The jury, consisting of the residency teachers, will select 10 projects.
  9. The selected participants will become part of an international residency to be celebrated for 10 days in Barichara, Santander, Colombia. As a part of this residency, they will participate in workshops led by international teachers with outstanding curriculums and academic experience in scriptwriting, to consolidate the participants’ projects. Among the approached subjects are narrative structure, character development, dialogue and dramatic situations, genre, relationships between words and images, among others. Each participant will have the possibility of receiving hours of personalized tutoring with every teacher.
  10. Additionally, the participants will be able to enjoy all of the activities held during FESTIVER from September 21st to 25th, 2016.
  11. FESTIVER will cover the participants’ ground transportation expenses (Bogotá-Barichara-Bogotá), accommodation and meals during the days of the residency only.
  12. In the case of international participants, if selected, they must confirm their assistance up to a month before the beginning of the residency by sending a copy of their plane tickets from their country of residence to Bogotá.
  13. If the participant resides in Colombia but not in Bogotá, they must also confirm their assistance up to a month before the beginning of the residency by sending a copy of their plane tickets to their city of residence to Bogotá or contact the festival directives in case of opting for ground transportation.
  14. The deadline for the project submission is on June 30th, 2016, 12:00 GMT-5 (Colombia local time). Any projects submitted after this date and time will not be considered.
  15. Similarly, the projects without a clear environmental subject or that breach the previously stated conditions will not be considered.
  16. The selected participants will be announced on July 15th, 2016.
  17. The residency will be held between September 16th and 25th, 2016 in Barichara, Santander, Colombia. The training program and schedule will be made known to the participants two weeks before the beginning of the residency and will be developed by the teachers, according to the features and quality of the selected projects.
  18. FESTIVER will not keep a copy of the e-mails containing non-selected projects as they will be deleted as soon as the selected participants are announced.
  19. FESTIVER will not correspond the participants who were not selected, nor will give explanations about why the project in question was not selected. The jury will have the final word in all cases.
  20. If the resulting screenplay is filmed, the winner agrees to include Barichara Green Festival FESTIVER logos and to state the support brought by the Festival.
  21. The participation in this section constitutes a full agreement to each and every one of the previously stated conditions.
